By doing a bit of research and narrowing down who you\u2019re actually going to call, you save yourself a ton of time and stress.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">If you go into cold calling blindly, you\u2019re going to be reaching out to people who may not be in your target market, leading to lots of hung-up calls and wasted time on your part.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">So, first thing\u2019s first: pick who you\u2019re going to call. Consider <a href=\"https:\/\/foundationinc.co\/lab\/b2b-target-audience\/\">the target audience for your solution<\/a>, whether it\u2019s across industries or company size, just try to have a couple of categories in mind to help you narrow your list down.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Next, start to find the right people to talk to. LinkedIn is a great resource for this, because you can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.easyleadz.com\/blog\/how-to-create-a-high-quality-b2b-targeting-list\/\">search for the right potential customers<\/a> from a myriad of search options.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Search based on job title, industry, mutual connections, location and much, much more.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Once you have a solid list of people to reach out to, do a little bit of research before dialing their number.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Try to find out what their role entails, what the company itself does (maybe you have helped similar companies before and can use those pain points in your conversation) and any interesting information that can help the conversation flow seamlessly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Now that you have a thoughtful, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cience.com\/blog\/how-to-build-highly-targeted-lead-lists-for-b2b-sales\">well-researched list<\/a> ready to go, it\u2019s time to put together your script!<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image regular\"><picture><source srcset=\"https:\/\/d37oebn0w9ir6a.cloudfront.net\/account_481\/bad68e67cacf7c6b8189e0f116c279d6.gif 1x\" media=\"(max-width: 768px)\"><\/source><source srcset=\"https:\/\/d37oebn0w9ir6a.cloudfront.net\/account_481\/bad68e67cacf7c6b8189e0f116c279d6.gif 1x\" media=\"(min-width: 769px)\"><\/source><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/d37oebn0w9ir6a.cloudfront.net\/account_481\/bad68e67cacf7c6b8189e0f116c279d6.gif\" alt=\"high five-ing herself\" width=\"945\" height=\"507\"><\/picture><\/figure>\n<div class=\"section-divider\">\n<hr class=\"section-divider\">\n<h2>Calling in the cold<\/h2>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Let\u2019s put all of the elements together to create a script.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">And remember: because you\u2019ve researched your list before reaching this point, try to work those conversation points into the call.<\/p>\n<p><strong class=\"translation-block\">First off, you need to clearly state your name and company.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Don\u2019t speak too quickly or in a loud space, as the person on the other end of the line will be annoyed immediately if they can\u2019t tell what you\u2019re saying to them.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image regular\"><picture><source srcset=\"https:\/\/d37oebn0w9ir6a.cloudfront.net\/account_481\/giphy1_a90593255faeb3dcaddef5ec7e1c561a.gif 1x\" media=\"(max-width: 768px)\"><\/source><source srcset=\"https:\/\/d37oebn0w9ir6a.cloudfront.net\/account_481\/giphy1_a90593255faeb3dcaddef5ec7e1c561a.gif 1x\" media=\"(min-width: 769px)\"><\/source><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/d37oebn0w9ir6a.cloudfront.net\/account_481\/giphy1_a90593255faeb3dcaddef5ec7e1c561a.gif\" alt=\"whale hello there\" width=\"500\" height=\"280\"><\/picture><\/figure>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Rather than immediately jumping into your pitch, give some space for a couple beats of silence. This allows the person to think about who you are, and possibly give them a chance to exchange a friendly \u201chow are you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong class=\"translation-block\">Then, this is the opportunity to make the call a bit more personal<\/strong> from the research you did earlier. Ask them something about their career, background, etc.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p class=\"translation-block\">\u201cAm I right that you are responsible for [current responsibility] at [current company]?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">\u201cFirst off, I saw on LinkedIn that we both know [mutual contact]. We [did something specific together at some point]. How do you know each other?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">\u201cI noticed you went to [university name]. One of my best friends studied there. How did you like your time at [university name]?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">\u2026 or mention\/ask anything that you feel comfortable with and that makes a connection.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Connect with them <a href=\"https:\/\/www.badgermapping.com\/blog\/how-to-develop-empathy-with-your-prospects\/\">on a personal level<\/a>, and they\u2019ll most likely warm up to the conversation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">If you feel them start to open up, continue the conversation and add a follow-up question.<\/p>\n<p>But don\u2019t dwell too much \u2013 <strong class=\"translation-block\">you need to get to the point!<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure class=\"image regular\"><picture><source srcset=\"https:\/\/d37oebn0w9ir6a.cloudfront.net\/account_481\/giphy_d366c0a2218de681c6751a446b58e0e1.gif 1x\" media=\"(max-width: 768px)\"><\/source><source srcset=\"https:\/\/d37oebn0w9ir6a.cloudfront.net\/account_481\/giphy_d366c0a2218de681c6751a446b58e0e1.gif 1x\" media=\"(min-width: 769px)\"><\/source><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/d37oebn0w9ir6a.cloudfront.net\/account_481\/giphy_d366c0a2218de681c6751a446b58e0e1.gif\" alt='kid asking, \"wait a minute, who are you?\"' width=\"480\" height=\"360\"><\/picture><\/figure>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Either give them the opportunity to ask the inevitable, \u201cwhy are you calling me?\u201d Or, casually jump into, \u201cthe reason I\u2019m calling\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Be sure to start with your experience with past companies that are similar in their pain points. Position you and your company in a way that shows you understand the challenges the company faces.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p class=\"translation-block\">Example: \u201cI currently work with business development managers in small to medium-sized marketing agencies. My customers are usually looking to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.getyooz.com\/blog\/invoice-management-software\">minimize the time they need to spend on billing and invoicing clients<\/a>. Does that sound like something you also face?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Thanks to your earlier research, <strong class=\"translation-block\">they should respond with a resounding, \u201cyes.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Instead of continuing with your pitch, ask them to tell you more about it. This gives you a chance to hear all about their pain points and build your case for why your solution is the best fit.<\/p>\n<p>At this point, the conversation should just flow. <strong class=\"translation-block\">Listen to them, and don\u2019t be too pushy in your pitch. I\u2019d love to have a quick conversation with you to discuss a bit further.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">You can reach me at [your number].<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Again, this is [your name] with [your company] and you can reach me at [your number].<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Thank you, [their name].<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">It\u2019s important to give them all of the necessary information upfront so that they have a clear understanding of who you are and how you can help them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">However, after a couple of days with no response, it\u2019s time to consider following up.<\/p>\n<div class=\"section-divider\">\n<hr class=\"section-divider\">\n<h2>Following up with your calls<\/h2>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">When it comes to following up after you haven\u2019t received a response from someone, it\u2019s important to find the fine line between being tenacious and being pushy.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image regular\"><picture><source srcset=\"https:\/\/d37oebn0w9ir6a.cloudfront.net\/account_481\/b71acf9d6990cdc568816b019d60bd24.gif 1x\" media=\"(max-width: 768px)\"><\/source><source srcset=\"https:\/\/d37oebn0w9ir6a.cloudfront.net\/account_481\/b71acf9d6990cdc568816b019d60bd24.gif 1x\" media=\"(min-width: 769px)\"><\/source><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/d37oebn0w9ir6a.cloudfront.net\/account_481\/b71acf9d6990cdc568816b019d60bd24.gif\" alt=\"call me back\"><\/picture><\/figure>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">If you\u2019ve called a few times with no response, it\u2019s time to move on.
