This is primarily because of 2 reasons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"translation-block\">They often get cut off past a certain character length<\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\">They\u2019re long winded and unfocused<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">On the other hand, shorter subject lines are specific, focused on a particular point or intended goal. They also never get cut off, which is a huge plus. \ud83d\udc4c<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">So, how <em>short<\/em> exactly, is ideal? After all, it\u2019s a rather vague term: what\u2019s too long, too short, and just right? Well, there\u2019s not an <em>exact<\/em> number; all subject titles are different: they\u2019re promoting a unique email about a specific topic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Too long is anything that gets cut off. What\u2019s the point if they can\u2019t see it? Too short is one that doesn\u2019t get the message off you intended. Why even send the email if you\u2019re not effectively telling them what it\u2019s about?<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">For what it\u2019s worth, there was <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.invespcro.com\/blog\/email-subject-lines-statistics-and-trends\/\">a study done on email subject line length and open rates<\/a><\/u>. These were the results:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"translation-block\">0-5 words = 16% open rate<\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\">6-10 words = 21% open rate<\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\">11-15 words = 14% open rate<\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\">16-20 words = 12% open rate<\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\">21-25 words = 9% open rate<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">6-10 words length is the winner; I wouldn\u2019t read too much into it, though. As stated before: each email is unique and requires a unique subject line. 0-15 words length will cover just about everything, but make sure to see if the subject line cuts off. Send it to yourself to check this out.<\/p>\n<p><strong class=\"translation-block\">NOTE:<\/strong> Also consider that the character length, not just the word length, is important. This is what determines the visual length of a subject line in an inbox, and if it gets cut off. People don\u2019t like it when they let an opportunity pass them by; nobody wants to be the odd one out. In fact, <u><a href=\"https:\/\/eventbrite-s3.s3.amazonaws.com\/marketing\/Millennials_Research\/Gen_PR_Final.pdf\">according to research<\/a><\/u>, nearly 70% of millennials state they experience FOMO. \ud83d\ude27<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">By putting some urgency in your cold email subject lines, you\u2019re forcing them into action. Incentivizing them to click and open.
